Naomi is ONE!

How is my baby ONE?! This past year has been the fastest year of my life. It must be having a second child. I have loved watching Naomi grow and change and become the baby she (still) is.

One year ago was such a scary, faith-building time for me. More so than any other time in my life. I have never relied so much on trusting my Heavenly Father than during my pregnancy and delivery this sweet baby girl. I am so thankful to him for carrying me through what I thought many times, may never happen!

When she was in the NICU, it felt like forever. I know I cannot complain because six weeks is nothing compared to what others stay. I just remember it feeling so surreal when we brought her home. Almost to the point of not knowing what to do!! She was so tiny.

Charlotte was thrilled when we finally got to come home. I often think about their initial meeting and it brings tears to my eyes. They are the best of friends and sweetest sisters. They adore each other!

Naomi is thriving and well. Coming 8 weeks early hasn’t really seemed to have much affect on her. She sleeps through the night, and has for a while! She is the perfect traveler. She loves FaceTime (the only time she can interact with a phone). She still seems so little to me and still can comfortably wear 3-6 month clothes, though I have been putting her in 6-12 month. Her well check is tomorrow and I can’t wait to find out her stats!

She has brought so much joy to our family. More happiness I didn’t know was missing. She is so fun to be home with every day. I cannot imagine what our family would be like without her. She is such a great baby!

TWO

I remember opening up presents at Charlotte's baby shower that were 2T and thinking, "she will never fit into this!" or "it's going to be such a long time before she is that size!" I'm here to tell you that the day has arrived...and it came quickly!

Charlotte was born at 1:50 PM two years ago today and her whole life has been documented on my iPhone and posted on this blog. From day one, I have called Charlotte my BFF. We have done everything together from Disneyland (98 times) to lunch dates to setting up two homes. She was the PERFECT baby.

Then about 18 months hit and I have no clue what happened! Most mothers can identify with this stage...the EARLY "terribe two's." Taking her to Target and going out to eat became a chore/nightmare, going to church seemed pointless, and all other normal and routine things were dreaded instead of looked forward too. BUT, I still did them all! Life couldn't just stop and I couldn't just sit in my house ALL THE TIME! All these things still continue but I have learned to run one errand at a time (or at least really plan out my day) where I am going to one location and then coming back home. Running errands are better in the morning too. There are days here and there, where she surprises me and is so good. But then I think she has turned a new leaf and it's back to the craziness!

One big parenting mistake I have already made and fully admit to, was taking her out of the crib when she wasn't ready. I thought she would be great and transition well. WRONG! much to our surprise, she continues to have a hard time going to bed. I've let her take naps in my room, since those don't last long anyway, but she has got to learn how to fall asleep in her bed. She loves being read to at night (and it's really the only time we can get her full attention). This bed transition has led to early mornings, when before she would sleep until 9 or 10, and her crawling into bed with us (which I actually love). When we first took the crib away and would lay down with her at night, she would wrap her arm around our neck to make sure whoever was there wouldn't leave. Or she would rub our face. Oh I loved those nights! I love being the one that she trusts. There is no greater feeling than being a mother. And bedtime is certainly when I'm reminded of it.

Charlotte is still on the slower side of talking.  The other day, she said her first full sentence, "where baby go?" Usually it's only one or two words. I was so excited I texted the family! She is getting a little better but still behind most kids her age, I feel. She has her two-year checkup on Tuesday and I will discuss it with her pediatrician. Even if she can have an evaluation done, I would feel more at ease.

Charlotte is such a big help around the house. She knows how to throw away her trash, pick up her toys, bring her dishes to the sink, and help me with other things. It's so nice to have a child that can do things for them self. Not that I mind doing them, but it really shows me that she's learning and becoming self-sufficient.

Nursery is a highlight. She loves seeing the new toys, her friends and singing time. Last week, she say through the entire so going time. I was thrilled! Josh and I are both nursery leaders and I'm sure that helps. Although, she doesn't really notice us unless we have to leave the room, for whatever reason!

For the most part, Charlotte is a good eater. Though, she is mine and Josh's child...she loves sweets!! Again, there are days that are better than others, but like I said before, I'm sure most mothers can identify with that.

Charlotte's birthday also represents more than just another year old. It represents the journey our little family went through, all the worry, all the stress, only to have the outcome of my pregnancy and delivery to go as smoothly as could be. It was a VERY uneventful pregnancy. Which is what we wanted. Charlotte's heart was found to be perfect! Everything the doctors told me how my delivery would go, never happened. I pushed that baby girl out in 20 minutes and it was the most pleasant experience from start to finish. Thank you Charlotte.  You are truly a miracle to your dad and me.  We love you more than we could ever write on any blog post or in any card.  We will continue each day to show our love to you.

This dress was made by my Grandma Sheila for her second birthday!  Thank you Grandma for all your time and hard work into these beautiful dresses!

Weekend to Celebrate

This time comes every year...wedding anniversary, birthday, AND Mother's Day. I jokingly tell people all the time that I got jipped! Three big "holidays" so close together, but in reality, it's one big celebration and Josh never disappoints.

This year we decided to celebrate my birthday and Mother's Day up in the mountains of Asheville, NC at the famous Biltmore Estate. It was about a three hour drive and we wanted to leave first thing in the morning of my birthday.

The night before is when the party began.  We went to Brusters Ice Cream for my free birthday scoop. Anyone under 40" gets a free baby cone, too!

When we returned home, I opened presents! I'm all about enjoying the moments and didn't want to be rushed before we took off in the morning. We put Charlotte to bed and ran downstairs. Josh was more anxious than I was! He got me some fun things including the Cameron Diaz Body book that we both saw in an interview a while back and were interested in reading. And he got me a FitBit...can you see a theme? I've been working out and really been watching what I are (except this weekend). Over the last three weeks I've lost ten pounds, so there is a lot of talk about working out and trying to eat healthier (...again, not this weekend). Thank you for the other gifts I receive ed from parents and grandparents and siblings.

Saturday was the day! The day I turned 29!!! I still can't believe I'm that age. I have experienced so much in these short 29 years, I can only imagine what my next 29 will hold! We got everything together and left! Once we arrived in Asheville, we were all excited. And of course, Charlotte didn't sleep at all during the drive (resulting in her falling asleep in the estate). We received our tickets at Costco (two days for the price of one) and went right in the house. Calling it a house is an understatement and calling it a mansion is not doing it justice! Josh did the audio tour (which came highly recommended), but with a one year old, forget it. Charlotte wanted to keep moving and the tour was slowing her down! We took the umbrella stroller due to the skinny hallways and many stairs we had to climb. Towards the end she sat in it and conked out.

After the house, we walked around the shops, got a treat, and then headed for the Gardens.

We eventually got rained...excuse me...POURED on! We stood under a very full tree for quite some time and then just made a run for it. Luckily, we had two day tickets!

After our somewhat quick trip to Biltmore, we wnt to the J. Crew distribution center. Perks to living in more affordable areas is that is where big companies set up shop! We did a little bit of shopping and then to dinner.

We kept it classy at the Olive Garden ;) For some reason, we drove past it and it sounded so good. Unfortunately, I didn't really love my meal (that's why I don't try new things). But the breadsticks made up for it.

We checked into the hotel, relaxed and feel asleep pretty quickly. With Charlotte in our room, the lights go out and we have to be really quiet for her to fall asleep, so might as well go to sleep too.

Sunday morning, we had breakfast at the hotel and opened my Mother's Day card and gift. I was thrilled to add to my collection of Alex and Ani bracelets with this little gem.

After, we headed straight over to Biltmore. There was not a cloud in the sky!! We went to the Gardrns first. There was hardly anyone there and we were able to take lots of pictures and Charlotte was in heaven running all over the place!

We walked around for a while, went back to the front of the house and then down to Antler Village.

Here we are at Cedric's Tavern...

Saw some animals at the farm...

And a few other fun and kid-friendly activities for Charlotte! We ended up leaving after getting ice cream at the Creamery.

It was such a fun weekend, great scenery, and of course great company with my two favorite people! Thanks Josh for the perfect weekend. And thanks to Charlotte for making me a mom and being the funnest little BFF I could ask for!

Charlotte's First Swim

My family has been in town the past few days and today we celebrated Gregory, William and Lillee's birthday by swimming. I have not put on a swimsuit since Charlotte was born; so all three of us braved the swimsuits and got in. Of course, Charlotte just chilled in the water. She loved it and we are excited for summertime!
